WHEREAS the University and Academic Affairs Coordinator has submitted
to Council a draft proposal for the instatement of a Society Equity
Commissioner (see supplementary documentation).

BIRT Council enter into a Committee of the Whole session for 30
minutes to discuss a proposal for a Society Equity Commissioner.

WHEREAS the Society is currently reviewing a proposal for the creation
of a position entitled "Equity Commissioner".

WHEREAS the Subject to the approval of Council, any proposal for an
Equity Commissioner will come into effect for the 2001-02 electoral
year.

WHEREAS such approval will not be made until February 2001, at the earliest.

WHEREAS Bylaw 8 of the PGSS constitution requires the Chief Returning
Officer (CRO) to announce a call for candidates in December.

BIRT Council request that the Chief Returning Officer (CRO) open a call for
nominations for an Equity Commissioner. 

BIFRT for the 2001 election only, election of an Equity Commissioner
be bound by the provisions of the PGSS Constition as they apply to the
election of Senators.

BIFRT instatement of an Equity Commissioner elected during the 2001
elections be contingent upon the approval of the relevant constitutional
amendments recommended to Council on the basis of the document
"Proposal for a PGSS Equity Commissioner" and that the period of
instatement begin not earlier than June 1st, 2001 and end not later
than May 31st 2002.

BIFRT an Equity Commissioner instated under the provisions of this
motion be bound by the Articles and Bylaws of the Constitution of the PGSS
and any amendments thereof from the date of instatement forward.
